The songwriters retreat and workshop participants give a concert of the songs written during the week. This is my favorite week of the year and I have been attending since 2005.
The Women's Singing Circle which Megan & I founded in April 2009 has been meeting monthly for singing sacred songs (mostly a cappella) within a prayer service. This is a monthly offering of fellowship and spiritual practice that is open to all interested women, whether members of St. Matthew’s or not. The singing time is both one of practice and process: the practice of a shared songbook of core material that has developed over the years; the act of worshiping God; and the work of building community through song.
Occasionally, the Women’s Singing Circle performs at St. Matthew's or at the invitation of other churches and community venues. Members are not required to perform. If you would like more information, please contact me.
Megan Whitted and I (The Travelin' Mercies) will be providing music for these services THROUGH August 2025.
St. Joseph's is the "little church with the big red doors." The Vicar is the Rev. Dr. Lauren Winner. She is a professor at Duke Divinity School and an Episcopalian priest. She is also an author and has written one of my favorite books, "Still." We are so excited to be working with her and providing music for this service. This is how they describe our music: “Americana soaked in Appalachian rain.” I just love that!!
